Simplify the following expression. 5(x + y) + 3(x - y)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5(x + y) + 3(x - y) -- distribute through the parenthesis 5 * x + 5 * y + 3 * x - 3 * y 5x + 5y + 3x - 3y -- combine like terms 8x + 2y thats the answer unless you need it factored, then it is : 2(4x + y)
