The Jews have a history of being conquered. They were held as slaves in Egypt, and the Babylonians took captured prisoners to Mesopotamia. The Greeks and Romans also did that to some degree. The few Jews that left on their own probably left to find a better life. And besides, the Arabs conquered the land too, when Islam was beginning to spread. The Jews did not exactly 'leave,' they were just assimilated into various other cultures
