OpenStudy (nicoleced):

-4y+10 =-2 (3y+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i simplifying or solving for y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

either way its y=-6

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

solving the equation

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

but i need to show work. idk how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on

OpenStudy (igreen):

@nicoleced Is this your equation? \(-4y+10=2(3y+1)\)?

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

no, its exactly how i wrote it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First you expand -4y+10 =-2 (3y+1) -4y + 10 = -6y – 2 The subtract 10 from each side -4y + 10 - 10 = -6y – 2 – 10 Then add 6y to both sides -4y = -6y – 12 -4y + 6y = -6y – 12 + 6y 2y = -12 Divide both sides by 2 2y / 2 = -12 / 2 y = -6

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

okay i have a couple more @trueseminole

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

-3x+1=-2 (4x+2)

OpenStudy (nicoleced):

please and thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.The same as last time, expand -3x+1=-2 (4x+2) -3x + 1 = -8x - 4 The subtract 1 from each side -3x + 1 - 1 = -8x – 4 – 1 -3x = -8x - 5 Then add 8x to both sides -3x = -8x – 5 -3x + 8x = -8x – 5 + 8x 5x = -5 Divide both sides by 5 5x / 5 = -5 / 5 y = -1
