In solving an equation for x, you distribute a –4 on one side of the equation. What needs to be done to the other side of the equation? Wouldn't I just multiply by a positive 4?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

whatever you do on one side of the equation, you have to do on the other side

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

can you give me the problem ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That was the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My choices are: A. multiply by 4 B. add -4 C. subtract 4 D. nothing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going with B

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Its the wording that I am getting confused on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B was not the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how good are you at solving word problems?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

if you subtract 4 from one side, you subtract 4 from the other side if you add 4 to one side, you add 4 to the other side x + 4 = 8 -- distribute a -4 -4 -4 ---------- (add) x = 4 I would go with B

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I can solve some word problems...what ya got ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

try C for your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm gonna do it on the open question thing so you have more time to solve it. Is that okay with u?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C was right btw

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sorry...I should have known that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's cool, I'm gonna close the question so I can re-ask with the word problem

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok
