please help
The volume of a cube is 512 cm3. What would change if the volume of the cube were measured in cubic meters? A. The volume of the prism would decrease. B. The volume of the prism would increase. C. The number of cubic units would increase. D. The number of cubic units would decrease.
First of all look at the common sense bit: Does the ACTUAL volume of the cube change at all?
yes
explain how - you have a cube sitting on your desk - you have a ruler in inches, you have a ruler in mm you have a ruler in yards, you have a ruler in miles - does the cube change depending on which one you use?
yes the length changes but if you mean the cube changes as in the look then no it dosent change
The volume and the length are physical properties of the item and do not change. If you have ruler that is 1ft long - it does not become longer because you call it 12"
oh sorry its hard for me to understand math
The units we choose to measure things in are just arbitrary numbers and we choose the unit for convenience - it is easier to think of for instance the distance around the world in miles or km than in inches or mm, but the distance is the same whatever we measure it in. SO - given that the actual Volume is a constant property of th cube - which 2 of the answers are NOT correct?
B AND C
Was that a guess?
kinda but i also tried to figure it out i'm just REALLY bad at math
let me try to figure it out again
c and a and this is not a guess
Ok - so we have stated that the volume is constant so: A says "The volume of the prism would decrease" Can this be true? B says "The volume of the prism would increase" Can this be true?
b is true i think i'm still trying to figure out a
A seems like it is not true
Maybe you need to review some study about volume and measurement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volume
SORRY I WAS TRYING TO ANSWER IT SOONER BUT MY COMPUTER WAS MESSING UP
It's not the speed - you do seem to be in need of some basic concepts before you try to answer questions like this. Volume is a CONSTANT property of a solid object, yet you think that b is true (volume decreases) , but a is false (volume increases). It is a CONSTANT property - it does not matter what units you use cm^3, mm^3, in^3 or miles^3- although the NUMBERS will be different the actual volume will be th esame - Same as your ruler is 12" AND 1ft they are the SAME length expressed in different units
