Generally, the purpose is to solve for the unknown variables within the system.  There are 3 main methods is solve for systems:

2. Substitution

3. Graphing 

For this system, I would use the substitution method.  Substitution is as simple as it sounds.  You would replace the variable with the given equation.  For this particular problem:

 x-5>-x-4 

x>1/2
