Hey @Greaty Let us draw the image in a better way shall we? :D |dw:1404306793853:dw| After finding AB. Prove that ABC is a right triangle too. By saying that it satisfies the pythagorus theorem. Getting this?

Thanks

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Yes it is. Now try proving the bigger triangle, a right triangle. Say that, using the other two sides: 48 and 20 as the base and the perpendicular. We get 52 as the hypotenuse when we apply pythagorus' theorem. Thus, as \[\sqrt{48^2 + 20^2} = 52\] we say that, by using converse of pythagorus' theorem. ABC must be a right angled triangle. Because even in the triangle the largest side is 52 which we have now proven to be the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle! Got it? :)
