If you are referring to mitosis, the cell undergoes DNA replication during the INTERPHASE. After this, the cell goes through PROPHASE, METAPHASE, ANAPHASE and then in TELOPHASE, the cell actually splits. Then the cell begins to divide.. Meiosis is different from this..!!!
