Hexagon DEFGHI is translated on the coordinate plane below to create hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I': Which rule represents the translation of hexagon DEFGHI to hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I'? (x, y)→(x - 8, y - 7) (x, y)→(x - 7, x - 8) (x, y)→(x - 4, x - 5) (x, y)→(x - 5, y - 4)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just focus on one point, how would we have to modify it to move it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to move the point we have to drop it down and over

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct, by how much down and how much over?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

over 1 and down -2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i see one error your making. you are moving from one point in a shape to another point in the same shape. thats not what we want to do. we want to move say; point H to point H'

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we start at point H, how far down do we move and how far over do we move to get to the point H'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

down 8 and over 7

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, to me that would be the rule: x-7 and y-8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lets verify that tho, since its possible to have miscounted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay wait i though it would be down -8 and over -7

OpenStudy (amistre64):

h = (2,1) h' = (-6,-6) h' also is equal to (2+a, 1+b) 2a = -6 when a = -8 1+b = -6 when b = -7 h' also is equal to (2-8, 1-7) so any general point (x,y) is moved by (x-8, y-7)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

little typo, 2+a = -6 ... the rest seems fine lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it now thanks i really appreciate your help

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hopefully if i have another question later on i can contact you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if im around and free, sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks again
