k if there is a decimal after 0......then however many numbers after 0 are counted as sig. figures.........so in your case......3.................... also......if no decimal involved....then no matter whatever number you have....just count the digits......that will be the sig. figure..........in your case (553) ...is 3............................................. general rule...:---- when multiplying or dividing a problem with sig fig.......always count the sig figs and the answer should have the lowest amount of sig fig from the counted one or equal. no more, no less.............
