i was doing pretty well with solving these equations until I came across this one just need a little guidance −5.3⋅16^n−9 =−77.8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

divide and log out the exponent

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that exponent is n-9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[-5.3~16^{n-9}=-77.8\] divide off the -5.3 log to reveal the exponent, divide off the log(16) and add off the 9

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not much to it, just a matter of peeling an onion basically ... one layer at a time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 10.734 but I don't think it is right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just a little off http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=-5.3%2816%29%5E%28n-9%29%3D-77.8 should be about 9.96

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks a bunch
