What was the Underground Railroad? Your response needs to include and explain the terms conductor, lines, station, and freight. The Underground Railroad was a secret way of freeing slaves where people would walk from place to place on their way to freedom. The free individuals who helped runaway slaves travel toward freedom were called conductors, and the stations were the stops they would make along the way. All of the routes were called lines, and the slaves being freed were referred to as freight.
