OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

Which of the following factors would have the least effect on the carrying capacity of an ecosystem? a. the total number of organisms b. the available water supply c. the available food supply d. competitive exclusion

@ZairaHernandez Do you have any that you think we can remove?

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

No I have no clue xc Im Still Stuck on this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ZairaHernandez Well, if there was zero water how many organisms could survive? If there was almost zero food how many organisms could survive? Now, who would the number of animals affect the amount of water in an ecosystem? And finally, competitive exclusion. This term is roughly equivalent to the statement: If two species populations compete for the same resources, one will ultimately displace the other species population. This is an oversimplification, but there you have it. Now how does this statement sound? Does it sound like it is saying the species effect the total number of species in an ecosystem or does it sound like it affects the relative amounts of the different species in the ecosystem?

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

So its C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ZairaHernandez No, once the food runs out the species cannot live there. It is D. D does not necessarily affect the carrying capacity. If a ecosystem can only support 500 individuals that uses resource X that is all it can hold. If we had two species it could be 300 individuals for species A and 200 for species B. If A wins and completely replaces B the ecosystem could still only support a total of 500 because A and B used the exact same resources and the amount of resources did not change because of the loss of one species.

OpenStudy (zairahernandez):

Ohh okay (: THANKS (:
