OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happened to the capacitance of a capcitor when we place a conductor between them?

OpenStudy (festinger):

depends whether the conductor touches the capacitor plates. if they do then it nullifies the capacitor. if it is just another capacitor plate, the capacitance drops. this is because in this 3 plate capacitor system we can imagine it as 2 capacitors connected in series, and the capacitance drops.
