How would I find the volume of this figure? http://i.imgur.com/3yHcbib.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

get the area(by dividing the shape to pentagon and triangle) times height (area is constant along the height) i can't understand the dotted line

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Yeah neither can I @Catch.me but thanks anyway

OpenStudy (aum):

Area of pentagon = area of ( ADE + ABD + BCD) = 2 * ADE + ABD Area of ADE = 1/2 * base * height = 1/2 * 8 * 6.8 Area of ABD = 1/2 * 8 * 13 Volume = Area pf pentagon * 6

OpenStudy (sepeario):

What happens to the dotted line? @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

The dotted line on the left is just a perpendicular line from D to the side AE and that gives the height of the triangle ADE (= 6.8 cm).

OpenStudy (sepeario):

Ok, thanks very much @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

You are welcome.
