It became more independent, as trade had risen due to the previous war, allowing relations with countries previously not related to, and as @data_lg2 said, it got closer to the US. Not sure if you'd use the Great Depression as an example, but it also allowed them to create a stabler economy through the creation of the Central Bank of Canada. Also, their economy was good, as well as immigrants coming to work there.
