Yep, you have to remember that Gorbachev was the first leader of Russia after the USSR. He was tasked with taking a failing political and economic system, and making it able to compete with the world. So he started allowing all sorts of western influences into the country, like the McDonalds pictured. He also put out a lot of Russian celebrities, like world class dancers, and Olympic athletes.
