PICTURE BELOW! :)

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The one on the right is enlarged by a scale factor of x2. For example, the line segment OP is 2 units long, while its corresponding segment in the other shape, segment UV is 4 units long.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

So that means the length of the segment you are looking for must be twice the length of its corresponding segment in the smaller shape.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Ok, to get from P to Q in the smaller shape we went to the left 2 and down 5. In the bigger shape we need to go twice that distance: to the left 4 and down 10. Where does that put you from point V?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it's not a segment we are looking for, it's the coordinates of one point, which is point "W" . :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok he is saying that the length of the line from the left picture from N->O has a value, say x On the right side from T->U, this value is double the length or 2x We can find the length of x by using the distance formula or other method.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Count 4 to the left of V, and then down 10. What is the coordinate of that point?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Cosmichaotic...I'm not a he. But that's ok. Just throwing that out there...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So each line on the right figure will be twice as long as the lines on the left figure. That being said, (4, -5) will be double the y's and x's from the left figure to get W in the right... Is that how you do it IMStuck? My apologies!

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I know they don't want the length of a segment as an answer, that they want a point, but my point (no pun intended) is that the segments are all dilated by a factor of 2, so all the points move twice as much in the bigger figure. Get it? anyway, what is the coordinates of the point 4 to the left of V and down 10 from that point?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

You're right, cosmichaotic! You're right! And no problem with the gender mix-up...it happens all the time! Maybe I should change my name? lol

OpenStudy (imstuck):

The new point, the point of W would actually be at (2, -5).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aww, IMStuck a girl that's great at math- that's sooo cute ^.^ so I would multiply 4 by 2 and -5 by 2?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

W is at (2, -5). Look at my great drawing I'm about to make! hehe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahaha :D ; alright!
