Rapheal is enrolled as a foreign-exchange student. He is from Canada and is going to attend school in Texas. His mother sent him $500 in Canadian Dollars for 5 months. How much money, on average, is he allowed to spend per month in US Dollars? The exchange rate is $0.82 USD = 1 CAD

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1) Absolutely silly question. The amount of money sent is only somewhat connected to the amount he is allowed to spend. 2) Okay, fine. Why not just convert the funds? \(500\;CD \cdot\dfrac{0.82\;USD}{1\;CD}\). Go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

410?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why do you doubt? So, $500 CD = $410 USD Of course, he had 5 months, so it may be easier to divide the CD amongst the 5 months. $500 CD / 5 months = $100 CD / month This is pretty obviously $83 USD / month.

got it. thank you!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

83? Typo. 82 is much more obvious. Sorry about that.
