SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME, MEDAL AWARDED!!!! One characteristic of Fungi is that they have a cell wall made of chitin. What are two other characteristics of Fungi?
they are heterotrophic
thats only one
heterotropism is the first one
A. Fungi lack chloroplasts and are unable to perform photosynthesis to produce their own organic molecules. B. The fungi are all heterotrophic A. http://163.16.28.248/bio/activelearner/25/ch25c1.html B. http://www.cliffsnotes.com/sciences/biology/plant-biology/fungi-not-plants/characteristics-of-fungi
parasitism in some species and symbiosis {lichens} is also seen in some species
thank you both!
Fungi are heterotrophic, needing an outside source of organic carbon for food. They use ezymatic digestion like animals but instead of an internal stomach they digest their food outside their bodies and absorb the digested nutrients, this makes them osmotrophs. They are the only Eukarya that can decompose cellulose or keratin. They use chitin as a structural element instead of keratin or cellulose. Muticellular fungi exist as filamentous hyphae for most of their life forming the sexual fruiting bodies only when reproducing/dispersing. Like plants they are sessile so they must grow spores to move the next generation to another food source. Spores do not merge together but grow directly into haploid organisms.
you are welcome
\(\bigstar\) They are saprophytic \(\bigstar\) They perform extracellular Digestion.
