Someone please help, medal awarded!!!! If the cos of angle x is 8 over 17 and the triangle was dilated to be two times as big as the original, what would be the value of the cos of x for the dilated triangle? Hint: Use the slash symbol ( / ) to represent the fraction bar, and enter the fraction with no spaces.

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

now we have to dilate this triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 17 is the hypotenuse

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

Yes because as we know cos = base / hyp So in the question it is given 8/17 hence 17 is hyp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now i don't know what else to do

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

Lets see what @Abmon98 has for us .. I think now we will just double the values and get our answer .. bUt i think thats not right

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Similar triangles have the same shape but may have different sizes. Same ratio but with a scale factor of k so it would stay the same

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

Ahh yes ratio will remain same even if u double it
