Choose the graph below with a range of all real numbers. @Cosmichaotic

What is your guess. Let's actually walk through one like this so if you have a test you will be prepared.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops. Where does the graph stop increasing in x on the second graph of option C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So all the #'s after 5 are not included.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need the graph that includes ALL real numbers. Not just the real numbers up to 5.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Woops, that's not actually the problem with C. See the arrow point upward in option C? It includes ALL positive values. The problem is the curve at the bottom, see how the curve doesn't reach down to most of the negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

You're basically looking for an `arrow point up` and an `arrow point down`. That would let you know that the function is extending up to all positive values, and down to all negative values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only one with an arrow point up and an arrow point down is choice "A".

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So option A includes all of the negative values in its range, `from the down arrow` and all of the positive values greater than 3-ish in its range, `from the up arrow` And it includes everything in the middle, yes? We have an open circle at y=2 which might lead us to believe we shouldn't include y=2 in our range. But luckily that value is defined elsewhere on the curve. So yes, option A! :)

Thank you :)
