Alcohols are compounds in which one or more hydrogen atoms in an alkane have been replaced by an -OH group. Two alkyl (or other hydrocarbon) groups bridged by an oxygen atom is called an ether. In amines, the hydrogen atoms in the ammonia have been replaced one at a time by hydrocarbon groups. the carbonyl group has two hydrocarbon groups attached and a double bond to oxygen too
