Explain why the motion of someone jumping up and down on a trampoline is not simple harmonic motion.

Hmm, well lets see, the force would have to be directly proportional to the displacement. The moment that person is not touching the trampoline the only force acting on them is gravity (which is a constant) which makes it impossible to be proportional to the displacement thus not agreeing with the definition of shm
