What does asking questions often do for readers?

it helps readers understand what they're reading. asking questions about anything helps you learn more about the topic and if you don't understand a part of something, you can ask questions to further your understanding. asking questions is a critical part of the reading process, not only asking other people questions but asking yourself questions. ie. "what does this mean" or "is this important" or "what did I learn." when readers ask questions, they tend to remember more important details and info.
