i wonder if any one can tell me what is the return value of any scanf and cin statement ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please can you explain your question? what do you think about scanf() function?? and cin??

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

The scanf commands return the number of input items assigned. The man page explains it well.

OpenStudy (mandre):

scanf and cin takes the user's input and assigns that value(s) to 1 or more variables. It does not technically return a value unless you mean the value entered by the user, e.g. string name; cout << "Enter name : "; cin >> name; The last statement gives a value to the string variable name, but does not return anything to standard output.
