The USS Maine was not blown up by spain. There was a ignition of ammo in the lower deck and that is what caused it to blow up. Journalist took the chance to cause some controversy and pointed there finger at the Spaniards. By the Journalist pointing fingers put pressure on the United States , by pressure I mean people were reading the papers and thought it was all real. It put pressure on the president , and this is one reason why we got into the spanish/american war.
