Difference between the blending hypothesis and Mendel’s particulate hypothesis?

OpenStudy (matt101):

The blending hypothesis suggested that physical characteristics of offspring occurred as a result of the blending of the corresponding characteristics in the parents. Mendel's particulate hypothesis suggested that physical traits were inherited in discrete units (that we now know are genes), and the physical traits of the offspring were dependent on which specific units were inherited from the parents.
