OpenStudy (tishockjo):

The data represent the ages of people working at a store. 19, 27, 20, 26, 20, 24, 32, 23, 20, 19, 21 What is the first quartile of these ages?

OpenStudy (tishockjo):

I think is 20, but i not sure

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Have you arranged the data in ascending order, as the first step?

OpenStudy (tishockjo):

yes

OpenStudy (tishockjo):

I wrote all the numbers down from the least to the greatest

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The lower quartile is the 25th percentile and has p = 0.25. There are n = 11 observations, therefore np = 11 * 0.25 = 2.75 which is not a whole number. So rounding up we take the 3rd observation which is 20.

OpenStudy (tishockjo):

Thank you @kropot72 :))

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You're welcome :)
