There are guides on youtube step by step on whatever you want to learn to do in photoshop.

Yeah, just google a question 'how to' for photopshop with plenty of tutorials. There are a lot of features in photoshop, but you can't say there's a standard method for something once you go down the line of effects. It all depends on the image material you have which strategy is best, and you'll just have to go at it, try, undo, and so on. You'll get the best results if you approach photoshop as a playground where you can test stuff out.
