OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is decontamination? how is it achieved?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hello @theyaana ! do u know the meaning of contamination ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, tis about the presence of a minor and unwanted constituent (contaminant) in a material, im talking about how to achieve using the autoclave T_T

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

do you know whats an autoclave..?

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

the AUTOCLAVE is just similar to a pressure cooker which works on the flow of current at 121 degrees celsius and 15lbs pressure

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Used always before a surgery to decontaminate the equipments.

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

not only in a surgery, also used in the process of tissue culture to sterilize the medium and the equpments..

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

ya sterilize - to avoid the invasion of microorganisms

OpenStudy (abhisar):

There is a difference between sterilize and Sterile. :)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@theyaana

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

ya sterilize - to avoid the invasion of microorganisms and sterile - infertility.. i didnt note it @Abhisar

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

@theyaana did you get your doubt clear..??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sterile meaning is also "free from bacteria or other living microorganisms or totally clean" -adjective :(

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

no but it is infertility

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yeah sterile means neutral.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

but commonly used with fertility.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

but as an adjective u can use it

OpenStudy (abhisar):

ex. This scalpel is sterile.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

got it ?

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

sterile offcourse means FREE from microorganisms but sterilize means making the things free from microorganisms

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

got it..??

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@deepika.comet yeah, sterilize is verb.

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

sterilizimg is the process of eliminating and avoiding the growth which develops sterile things.. but commonly sterile is used in terms of fertility..

OpenStudy (abhisar):

u cannot say "This scalpel is sterelize"

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

yeah abhisar not always i saying that only

OpenStudy (abhisar):

*sterilize

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

sterile can be used in both the ways but sterilize cant be used so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okey guys enough, thank you so much :)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yeah i just answered @theyaana question \(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @theyaana sterile meaning is also "free from bacteria or other living microorganisms or totally clean" -adjective :( \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

hahaha ! no one is fighting @theyaana !

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

sterilize - making the things free from microorganisms as i told earlier but scalpel will not make itself free from micros

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

@theyaana i and abhisar are friends and we always discuss this way so that we can remember things well..!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

it's simple yaar...Sterilization is a process a verb. Sterile is an adjective. Sterilization is a process of making things sterile.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

getting my points ?

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

yeppp..!!!!!!!!! that is what i was telling indirectly so that theyana understand it well

OpenStudy (abhisar):

That's why infertiles are called sterile because they are neutral/clean

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Infact the processes like vasectomy or tubectomy is called as sterilization.

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

ya but they are not told they are infect by micors hahaha

OpenStudy (abhisar):

gamete is also microorganism !

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

@Abhisar now leave it again the girl gets confused by the new terms..!!!

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

im talking about the infecting micros

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

sterilization is done when infected by micros gamates never infect...!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahahaha. im getting crazy here because of both of you :D

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

so you got it @theyaana we both might discuss alot but we share our knowledge and learn alottttt....

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yes that's the point ! Sterilization is about making things clean from unwanted contaminants. They may or may not be infectious.
