That was a lot.... next question.....Although Indians were horrified at the assassination of Gandhi, they were in a sense “relieved” that his killer was a Hindu, not a Muslim. Do you agree that they were correct in feeling that the repercussions from a Muslim murder of Gandhi would have been far more dire? Explain your answer, using examples.

I think I can answer thee original question
The answer is each countries pride in their form of government. Americans wanted to spread democracy and the Soviet Union wanted to spread communism. No real war happened between the Americans and the Soviets but the fight for government influence went on.
