law- something that has been proven correct and true numerous times theory- a guess/belief that something is true, not necessarily correct, some people may support it, others not.

No. A scientific theory is not a guess. It is the currently accepted best fit explanation of an event or a system. It may be wrong, but we don't call just any random guess a theory. A theory has to stand up to some kind of experimental base, or it is immediately rejected.
