Is the following relation a function? x y 1 -2 1 -3 2 1 3 -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, if you plot these points, you would be able to draw a vertical line through the first two points. I other words, you can't have two y values for the same x value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no because you have 1 twice in the first column

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you say 2 y values you mean having those -2s in the y column ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys I greatly apprciate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, we mean for x =1 you will see that y = -2 and y=-3. This means the relation is not a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I got it now @marshallinwashington
