\(\bigstar\) A gametophyte is the haploid multicellular stage in the alternation of generations during the life cycle of land plants and algae. It is produced from mitotic cell division of spores, which are produced by meiosis in sporophytes. Gametophytes produce haploid male or female gametes (or both), by mitosis. \(\bigstar\) Gametes are the single celled haploid structures which fuse together to form zygote. \(\bigstar\) Pollen grain is the male gametophyte and embryo sac inside the ovule is female gametophyte. \(\bigstar\) Three cells from which the pollen grain is made up of are three male gametes while the egg cell inside the embryo sac is female gamete.
