Identify the word in bold. (coloring) On rainy days, Andrew enjoys coloring. A. present participle B. gerund C.infinitive D. verb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the bolded word acting as a verb in the sentence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess coloring is a verb. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it is. But in this sentence coloring is the object and "enjoys" is the verb, so you know it's not D. Also, it can't be C because the infinitive is always "to" plus the verb. For example, [to walk] or [to talk]
