Choose the slope-intercept equation of the line that passes through the point (6, 4) and is parallel to y = one thirdx - 3. y = 3x - 14 y = one thirdx + 2 y = -3x + 22 y = -one thirdx + 8

If it is parallel to that equation it has to have the same slope. Which number in the first equation is the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: it is before the x. Just look for that same slope in the answers and that is the correct one :)

dont understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your first equation is Y=1/3x-3. In the slope-intercept equation the slope comes before the x and the intercept comes after it. In this equation if the slope is 1/3 because it is the number before the x. In order for two lines to be parallel they need to have the same slope. The only equation in the answers given that has the same slope is the second one. Do you still not understand?

yes thanks
