Forests are assets to environment because they do lots of things. Such as provide homes for species, and therefor help maintain species diversity. They also maintain, and purify water sources, and therefor fight water scarcity. Finally they help with climate change, by removing greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere, they help with global warming to some extent. So all of the above.
