OpenStudy (zab505):

What is the solution to the equation below? Round your answer to two decimal places. 3*ln x = 9.9 A. x = 8.97 B. x = 1.19 C. x = 25.66 D. x = 27.11

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Have you considered dividing by 3?

OpenStudy (zab505):

Dividing what by 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dividing both sides by 3

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I'll take that as a no. Can you solve this: 3y = 12

OpenStudy (zab505):

y=4

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why is that different from the problem you presented? Do the same thing.

OpenStudy (zab505):

D?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That was quite a leap. How did you manage that result?

OpenStudy (zab505):

I did as I would with the y=4 problem

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Dividing by 3 resulted in \(ln(x) = 3.3\). Then what?

OpenStudy (zab505):

I solved for x

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

In this case, how did you do that?

OpenStudy (zab505):

Calculator

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Sigh. I suppose. I had hoped that you would be more communicative. I have \(ln(x) = 3.3\). Using properties of logarithms, this transforms to \(x = e^{3.3}\). A calculator then provides the numerical result, x = 27.11 Make a better effort to communicate. It will serve you well.

OpenStudy (zab505):

Sorry about that, but I am very thankful!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Not a matter of sorry. That's why some elementary text books try to force students to use "complete sentences". Learning to communicate is important, too.
