MEDAL REWARD!! :) Two trains leave stations 192 miles apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels at 90 miles per hour while the other travels at 70 miles per hour. How long will it take for the two trains to meet?

OpenStudy (aum):

First calculate the distance x from the first station where the trains will meet. After that you can calculate the time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i add or subtract?

OpenStudy (aum):

Let the distance from the first station be x. First train travels distance x in x / 90. The second train travels a distance of (192-x) when it meets the first train. Time taken by second train is (192-x) / 70. Equate the two times and solve for x. Then substitute in any one of the equations and solve for time t.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

distance = speed * time |dw:1404976032045:dw|
