Examples of fission

Miracrown (miracrown):

what are you asked to do exactly ?

Miracrown (miracrown):

just give examples, I presume?

Miracrown (miracrown):

And also, do you understand what fission is? or do you need help understanding that?

Miracrown (miracrown):

fusion means coming together, fission means splitting apart So, nuclear fission means that something is splitting in two...based on the word "nuclear" fission--what do you think is splitting into two?

Miracrown (miracrown):

There is only 1 naturally occurring example of this: Uranium 235 And it splits into Kr 92 and Ba 141 Here is something to reinforce what I have been explaining: http://chemistry.about.com/od/nuclearchemistry/a/Nuclear-Fission-Nuclear-Fusion.htm So, in the example i just talked about, U 235 takes on an extra neutron which causes it to split into Kr and Ba (fission) and releases energy and some neutrons
