I have a rant/dislike about this site. A couple of days ago I was banned for ether really giving out answers or a specific admins aditude ajustment after I had a few words for him. But anyways I was gone for 2 weeks and still am i got 5 days left but anyways it said i was banned for 2 weeks 3days 23 hours and 12 minutes it said which is random but my complaint is that my dumb hill billy friend made a bunch of accounts and he said F this F that, "Suck my D". He made about 15 accounts over a 3 day period, heres the funny part, he only got banned on all those accounts for 45 minutes .... so whats the problem admins. Can you tell me.
I just wanna know what's up with the banning process
Usually if a troll is going to keep making accounts, they moderators will just suspend that user for the time that's given already instead of changing it. Trolls tend to just make a new account right away anyway, so why suspend for long periods of time? Eventually if the troll keeps evading suspension and continuing to break rules, they will be IP banned. Those rarely happen, but do still happen. Suspending right away is a quick easy way to stop a troll. Plus, moderators can IP check to see if it is the same troll as before. As for your account though, you are evading suspension and it can only cause your suspension to be extended. You could have emailed abuse@openstudy.com or contact@openstudy.com with what you had seen. Does this mean you've been evading suspension to watch your friends? If so, you should log off any of those accounts and finish your suspension period up.
I always find it funny, how "friends and relatives" care so much about you going on the site, that they'll trash talk on other accounts. Interesting.
There's no banning process, every moderator is free to suspend anyone for an amount of time they deem fit as a response to your misbehavior. Some mods suspend longer than others, so you just had bad luck.
The time put in is in hours, so I doubt anyone was suspended for 45 min. Probably an hour. When a person is doing account after account, some of the mods suspend for only an hour because it is the default and therefore fast. Their goal is to get the vulgarity stopped. As for the longer suspensions, well, the instruction for cheating and certain violations is "at least a month." Though, most moderators do less than that. That is the sort of baseline we are given for major violations. So a week for other things is not that unusual. Another side effect of it being done in hours is that some values are simply easier to type. For example, 444. 444 hours is 18.5 days, or 2 weeks, 4 days, and 12 hours. 432 would be exactly 18 days. But now that they are working on new ban tools, you may see some difference when people make multiple accounts.
Why is this still open o-o
because its an issue
Just close it there is no reason to keep it open
not really only took 30 sec @No.name
lol taking your post off @No.name
Well, like it says at the bottom of the http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct "If you are permanently banned, or you feel you did not deserve a suspension that you were issued, feel free to email abuse@openstudy.com to discuss your suspension with one of the OpenStudy team members." But so you know, they generally feel the moderator suspensions are too short and will not ask us to change ones like yours to shorter. As for the other one, like I said, repeating logins are dealt with in different ways depending on the mod involved. However, we are now getting a new ban tool. It is being built right now. So when people do those repeated accounts, they will just be banned and that is that.
how do you get banned
@boyperson Read the Code of Conduct document linked in my message above and also linked at the bottom left of every subject page.
