A single die is rolled. Find the probability of rolling an odd number less than 4. (the answer is 2/3 please explain why?)
1,2,3. Which one of these is odd ?
1 and 3
I think you mistyped your question. Answer should be 2/6 but according to the given answer, it seems this question is supposed to be a conditional probability. That is given rolling a number less than 4, what is the probability of getting an odd number? then, answer is 2/3
that's exactly what i thought. I'm taking an online math class. and they gave me that as the answer 2/3.
instead of 2/6
ok, since it's online, anything can happen
the probability of rolling an odd number less then 4.... there are 6 numbers on a die, but there are only 3 odd....1,3,5 so there are only 3 total chances of rolling an odd....and out of that, there are 2 chances of rolling an odd less then 4. that makes the probability 2/3
thank you thank thank you! that makes perfect sense now @texaschic101
anytime :)
@texaschic101 what you explained is for conditional probability. The question would be: given that you rolled an odd number, what is the probability you rolled a number less than 4 that is a different question from, what is the probability you roll an odd number less than 4. (the answer here would be 2/6 or ⅓)
