A cruise ship left the Bahamas two hours before a speedboat. The boats traveled in opposite directions. The speedboat traveled at 25 mph for two hours. After this amount of time, the vessels were 90 miles apart. what would be the ships speed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well 25 MPH x2 is 50 so the speedboat is 50 miles away from the point of origin, that makes the cruise ship 40 miles away from the point of origin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what number times two will yield 40 miles? That is you're answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be 'times 4' because the cruise ship left 2 hours before the speed boat, that would be the correct answer.

OMG good save, I completely missed that, @Jaodao is completely correct it would be what number times 4 yields 40 miles.
