OpenStudy (praetorian.10):
The muslim world was split when (i think Muhammed) died, and they couldn't find a successor. One group of muslims (sunni's) believed that the next Caliph (ruler) should be Muhammed's Father in Law; The other group (Shia's) believed it should be his Son in Law.
