Ok, first off we need to know about congruence. In this picture, I would like you to tell me which are congruent. |dw:1405135174710:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b and a are. 5 and 8 1 to 4. 3 to 2. 7 to 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are absolutely right!!! So if I told you that angle 1 is 50 Degrees. Then you'd know that angles 4, 5, and 8 are all 50 Degrees. Right? So your problem says Angle 9 is 4n And Angle 1 is n + 90 We can say then that angle 1 = angle 9 right? OR 4n = n + 90 Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so solve for n! Do you know how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Somewhat. I tried doing it with the numbers they gave but couldn't find it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have all the information you need to solve for "n". Think of it like this, What if I gave you this problem, 3x = x - 4 and asked you to solve for x, what would you do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm. Cancel out 4. Then i'd have 7x = x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so we need to teach you some basic algebraic rules. If we have 2x = x + 2 We need to isolate x by itself on one side of the equation. The rules of algebra say whatever we do to one side of the equation, we must do to the other side. So let's first subtract x from the left side, and subtract x from the right side. |dw:1405136019567:dw|
