For which independent value do the equations generate the same dependent value?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

when the dependent is equal to the independent y = x

@angel1434 what are the equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y1=6x+10 y2=4x+4

a. 3 b. -3 c. -2 d. none

The dependent values \(y\) will be the same for some as of yet unknown value of \(x\). To find it, you set the equations equal to each other and solve for \(x\): \[\begin{align*}y_1&=y_2\\ 6x+10&=4x+4\\ 2x&=-6\\ x&=-3 \end{align*}\] This means that for \(x=-3\), the equations get the same dependent value of \(y=-8\).
