Well one thing is that it allowed them to eat but it was an opportunity to trade with other European goods. Native Americans lived in an area where many animals, other food supplies, and rivers were available; this was an advantage to grow crops. Later, they started trading with other foreign countries, where they got supplies that were fairly new to them.
