There is something I am missing on Gauss's law part. I tried solving for electric field due to charged conducting ring, using a cylindrical Gaussian surface, but didn't got it right. My guess is Gauss's law is strictly applicable with continuous charges only, like continuously charged infinite sheet or so. What say??
