y= -x - 2 y= 2x - 5 The x-coordinate of the solution to the system equations is..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where do the two lines intersect? Then look at where that point is (the ordered pair)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ordered pairs are like this (x,y) so what are the points they intersect?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um...-2 and 2?????? i suck at this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the ordered pair of the spot i circled?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3, 1 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're close, when you look at a coordinate plane, when going left and right it's the x axis. But when you go up and down it's the y axis. You always locate the x-axis first and then the y-axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would i just switch it around to 1, -3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup that's right, so it's (1,-3) now since you are looking for the x-coordinate then it would be 1 because ordered pairs are (x,y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1 is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup 1 is the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will not work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the coordinates, when plugged in to each equation, do not equal out so therefore it will not work
